Mr. Teng Yang - Physical Education
I am native to Oroville and have been living here for 33 years. I attended grade school in the Thermalito District and went to Oroville High School. I continued my education at Butte College straight out of high school and graduated with a transfer to Chico State. After two years at CSU Chico, I graduated with my B.S. in Criminal Justice. I somehow ended up here at STREAM.
I am now entering my 18th year as an educator. A lot of my years were spent in the Afterschool Program, a few years at Central Middle school, and now, entering the ninth year at STREAM as the PE teacher. I am honored to be one of the Founders of STREAM Charter School and is blessed to have the opportunity to continue my work here. One important reason I love it here is that the staff creates a positive vibe for a safe and fun learning experience.
Like most Hmong people in my generation, I come from a big family. I stand proud to be part of seven boys, three girls, and two loving parents. The most unique thing I can say about my family is that we all have graduated from Chico State. I will admit that without the support and encouragement from my family, I might not be where I stand today. I have grown my own family to five beautiful kids. Three of my five kids are now attending STREAM.
In my spare time, I enjoy doing various sports, coaching, fishing, doing some outdoor activities, and hanging out with the families. I've played soccer since I can remember and am still enjoying it. When I am in need to decompress, fishing usually helps me do it. Lake Oroville and the Afterbay is the place to catch 'em all. Camping and hiking are usually times spent with the family. I enjoy the outdoors because nature gives me a sense of peace.
My dreams and hopes for our future generations is to provide the right tool for them to reach their potential in whatever direction they may take.
