I was born and raised in Oroville, which helps me associate closely with our students and the community, though I now reside in Chico. I attended schools in the Palermo District and Las Plumas High School. I went to Butte College for two years where I earned my AA in Liberal Studies, and went on to CSU, Chico where I graduated with my BA in Liberal Studies in 2013 with Summa Cum Laude Honors. I spent two semesters completing the CSU, Chico credential program and student teaching in a second and a fifth grade classroom and I completed my credential as a certified teacher in May 2014. I then was hired at STREAM, where I taught second grade for five years. Four years ago, I became the Independent Study teacher and taught 4th-8th graders for two years. It was quite the adventure, and I loved it. The school year after that, I was STREAM's Tech. Time STEM teacher and worked with TK-4th graders. That school year, I also worked closely with Mr. Phillips and Mr. Thomas in preparation for moving into my role as Co-Principal this past school year. I enjoyed the Co-Principal role, but as Mr. Phillips retires, I am moving into a Co-Director role and mostly focusing on finances.
I come from a teaching family: my mother was a teacher for 36 years and my sister is one of STREAM's Tech. Time teachers. I had wanted to be a teacher ever since I could remember and feel I can hopefully make a bigger impact in leadership. Now that I have over a decade of working in education under my belt, I am looking forward to perfecting my craft and challenging myself in new ways in the coming years.
The outdoors is a great love of mine. I especially like swimming and walking. I also enjoy yoga, reading, cooking, fixing up our house, and traveling. I spend my free time with my family, friends, and pets. I live with my wonderful husband, Daniel, who has been by my side since my first year teaching. This past year we welcomed our first child, a baby boy named Brink. Being a mom has become my favorite role yet. We also have two dogs Kobe and Dash. We are currently busy renovating our home in Chico.
I am looking forward to another great year at STREAM. I cannot wait to see our school continue to expand and welcome more students. I am excited to see where STREAM goes next. Here's to another fantastic year!
