Mrs. Kari Vickery

K-4 Music Teacher

I was raised in Yuba City and graduated from Sutter High School. As a youth, I was enamored with the geography of the Oroville area and took many opportunities to hike around in the beauty of the foothills (Feather Falls and Bald Rock remain favorites). I had long wished to make this area my home, and now we have lived in the mountains outside Oroville for eight years and plan to stay put.

Another favorite California region is Humboldt County, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Humboldt State University. I also took many music and performing arts classes because I love singing and theater so much. Just after graduating, I returned to Yuba City and worked as a beekeeper with my mother. It was a fascinating and wonderfully challenging experience that prompted me to consider pursuing a graduate degree in entomological genetics...but I decided I would much rather teach!

I earned my teaching credential from CSU, Chico, in 2005, student teaching at both Yuba City High School and Sunny Brae Middle School (in Arcata). My family has moved quite a bit, and I have substitute taught in every location we have lived, including the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, where I also worked as a laboratory teacher at SUNY Adirondack. I kept singing in community choirs throughout my early adulthood (until I had my own children) and instruction in singing is a passion I am eager to share.

When not in school, I enjoy hiking and biking with my husband, son, and daughter.
