Mrs. Heather McGuire

Seventh Grade

My name is Heather McGuire and this will be my 3rd year teaching here at STREAM. I am excited to be spending another year in 7th grade!

I was born in Chico but raised in Eureka California, among the redwoods. I spent a lot of my childhood outdoors at the beach or the river or running through the redwoods that made up my backyard. In elementary school, I played basketball for a number of years and began to play the bass clarinet. In high school, I continued to play bass clarinet in a local community band and I found my love of theater which would continue through college as I stage managed frequently for a local community theater.

I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher and spent my high school years running the after school program for the K-12 school that I was attending. I stuck close to home for college and attended College of the Redwoods for my associate degree and then Humboldt State for my bachelor’s degree and teaching credential, following in my grandfather’s footsteps.

I met my husband at Humboldt State and together we moved to Santa Rosa where I began teaching. I have taught a variety of grades from Kindergarten through 12th grade including 2 years teaching 6th grade, and 4 years teaching independent study for grades 6-12.

When I am not at school I can be found at home in Chico with my husband, my 2 sons, and our chocolate lab. We enjoy spending time in local Butte County parks, fly fishing, and paddling our kayaks. I also enjoy spending time creatively, using my Cricut, doing needlepoint, crochet and occasionally quilting.

My absolute favorite part of being a teacher is getting to know my students. My top priority is to make my students feel seen and known, and to create an environment in which they feel they belong.
