Mrs. Kelly Vang - Resource Teacher
Hello STREAM! I am thrilled to be a part of your team! Aside from traveling, exploring, and beach fishing with my wonderful husband, providing appropriate and beneficial resources to help students have academic success is my passion! I believe that students should be able to access instruction in their best learning environment and receive education supports in order to access curriculum meaningfully. My goal as the Resource teacher is to push-in support (or Co-Teach) and promote inclusion by collaborating with teachers, providing students differentiated instructions, and incorporating a universal design of learning.
My family is HUGE! I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers. I am an aunt to 4 nieces and 11 nephews. Most of us were born and raised here in this beautiful town we call home. Two of my sisters are also teachers! Whoohoo! The rest of my siblings hold careers with law enforcement, financial, and accounting.
I recently graduated from Chico State’s Concurrent Teaching Credential Program specializing in both General and Special Education. Prior to the program, I completed my AS degree in Social and Behavioral Science from Butte College. After that, I transferred to Chico State where I received my BA degree with a major in Liberal Studies and a minor in Special Education.
My desire for working with students began in 2009. I started off as a College Tutor in the After-School Program with BCOE for a total of 7 years. I learned many valuable strategies of how to overcome barriers despite having limited resources. In 2012, I decided to expand my education awareness by becoming a part time Special Circumstances Instructional Aide. I had the incredible opportunity to work with students in need of academic and behavioral support and with a remarkable student with ASD. Since then, my love for Resource and Special Education have increased significantly.
In 2016, I resigned from both positions. Having 7 years under my belt, I was eager and motivated in becoming a credentialed teacher. I moved to Chico to continue my education while working with Chico Area and Recreational District’s Kids on Campus program. Working for CARD was helpful as I gained more knowledge and skills by working with students, families, and educators in a different district. I was exposed to a new community of diversity, both abilities and cultures. By 2017, I became the program’s Director. The Director position definitely challenged me to give my students, their family, and my staff my greatest efforts but also shaped me into a better educator today. It increased my knowledge on how to create and incorporate resources effectively and also improved my leadership skills.
I have had many amazing experiences working with diverse students and look forward to gaining more learning opportunities with STREAM. I cannot wait to get to know you and your family! Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions.
